Residential Services

Residential Services

The services provided by Southern Highlands' 24-Hour Residential Program are diverse and intended to meet the needs of a wide variety of individuals with developmental disabilities and/or Severe and Persistent Mental Illness. This is accomplished through the utilization of Community Based Group Homes, Supported Living Residences and Crisis Respite Services.

Mental Health Residential Services (Hartley)

With a grant through DHHR  individuals with severe or persistent mental illness can receive around the clock residential support in group homes or Supportive Living settings. Currently Southern Highlands provides residential supports in a six bed all male Group Home located in Bluefield WV and a 10 bed coed Group Home located in Princeton WV as well as Supportive Living Sites. The Supportive Living Sites are private residences with fully trained staff that serve two individuals who share household expenses. These attractive well maintained homes are throughout the community and have up to 16 hours of staffing that help individuals with mental illness adjust to living in the community and reduce psychiatric hospitalizations. Staff in these sites help individuals become more self sufficient offering training of basic living skills and medication assistance through nursing staff.

Developmental Disability Services

Waiver members also live in Supportive Living Sites with 2-3 individuals with developmental disabilities.  These attractive well maintained homes  are throughout the community and have 24 hours staff that help individuals with basic living skills, psychiatric/ behavioral support, as well as nursing services to assist with medications for the Waiver Members to live in their own home.  A three bed Crisis Respite Unit is located in Princeton and accepts statewide referrals for individuals with Developmental Disabilities.
